Cat Mod Square Mounting Instructions

It’s important to read our basic mounting instructions before continuing on. The basic mounting instructions will help you determine what tools you will need and also about how to mount individual planks, sisal poles, and Escape Hatches.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsThis is a really fun layout. You will need three studs spaced out at 16″ from center to center. Start by marking the center of each of the three studs you’re using.

It’s easiest to cut your fabric before mounting the planks. Below are the different fabric cuts you will need to create The Cat Mod – Square.

When cutting the fabric to size, you want to cut 3/4″ out from the center of the grommets, on either edge. This length allows for the fabric to hold tight in each plank.

We suggest mounting the first level up the wall 14-20″ off of the ground.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsStart by removing both of the planks from the solid 18″ shelf and then mount one of those in the left-most wall stud you are using.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsNext, mount the shelf using the plank you just mounted and the other plank that you removed from the shelf in the previous step. For step-by-step instructions to mount shelves, look here. Before mounting the shelf top, attach both the strips of fabric to the posts on the planks, one on each side. Let the left strip hang for now.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsUse a separated plank to clamp the second set of grommets down the strip of fabric. Stretch the fabric to the right until the plank is centered on the next stud over, making sure the fabric is taut. Trace the corner of the plank and mount it. Reattach the plank top with furniture screws.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsRemove the planks from the Escape Hatch and place the last set of grommets over the mounting posts of one of them. The bottom of the plank you’re using must be upside down at this point. Stretch the fabric straight up, and with the plank now right side up, mark the corner and mount the plank in place.

It’s easiest to hold the included level along the fabric to make sure it’s perfectly vertical, and that it goes into the same stud.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsTo mount the Escape Hatch, follow the directions from our basic mounting instructions. Be sure to mount the shelf so that the hole is on the left side to make it easier for cats to get up and down the complex. Leave the furniture screws out of the left side of the Escape Hatch.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsFrom the left side of the solid shelf you mounted in step 2, using a straight edge, make a vertical line with a pencil to help line up the last plank. We made a barely visible line and it erased very easily after we finished mounting.

Cat Mod Square Mounting InstructionsNext, attach the last set of grommets to the left escape hatch plank, in the upper right corner of the complex. Place the second set of grommets from the left of the Escape Hatch over the mounting posts of the last plank. Pull the plank up and to the left to find the placement. Use the line you drew to make sure the fabric is lined up vertically, and then place the level on the short horizontal hammock so that each side is level. Trace the corner of the plank and mount it, then reattach the plank top.
