Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting Instructions

It’s important to read our basic mounting instructions before continuing on. The basic mounting instructions will help you determine what tools you will need and also about how to mount individual planks, sisal poles, Escape Hatches, and ladders.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsThis is a really fun layout. You will need three studs spaced out at 16″ from center to center. Start by marking the center of each of the three studs you’re using.

Since this is a rather tall structure and we’re going to be mounting pieces at multiple points of each stud, it’s nice to make a mark at several heights on each stud.

It’s easiest to cut your fabric before mounting the planks. Below are the different fabric cuts you will need to create The Cat Mod – Deluxe Fort.

When cutting the fabric to size, you want to cut 3/4″ out from the center of the grommets, on either edge. This length allows for the fabric to hold tight in each plank.

We suggest mounting the first step up the wall 14-20″ off of the ground.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsSeparate your first plank and mount into the furthest stud to the right. Attach the five-grommet-long piece of fabric so that it goes out to the left of the plank and replace the plank top.

Use a separated plank to clamp the third set of grommets down the fabric. Hold the unmounted plank centered on the next stud over, at an upwards angle, with the fabric taut. You will want to be sure to mount the plank high enough to ensure a tight staircase.

Trace the corner of the unmounted plank and mount it.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsTake another separated plank, place the second set of grommets over the plank, and stretch the fabric to the left, being sure the hammock is taut. Mark the corner of the plank with a pencil and mount the plank with the two holes that best line up with the stud.

Screw caps on to hold fabric in place.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsUse a separated plank to clamp the last set of grommets on the strip of fabric. Stretch the fabric to the left until the plank is centered on the next stud over, making sure the fabric is taut. Trace the corner of the unmounted plank.

Mount the plank and attach the end of the fabric.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsNow take the two bottom planks off of the Escape Hatch shelf and mount one of the plank bottoms directly above the last plank mounted, with 13″ of space between the two levels.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsNow attach the other plank, using your Escape Hatch as a guide. (Please see our basic mounting instructions here.) Before attaching the shelf to the plank bottoms, be sure to first lay the fabric in place. Attach the five-grommet fabric section to the left plank and a three-grommet section of fabric to the right plank.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsPlace the second set of grommets from the left side of the Escape Hatch over the mounting posts of a separated plank. The bottom of the plank you’re using must be upside down at this point. Stretch the fabric straight up, with the plank now right side up, mark the corner, and then mount the plank in place.

It’s easiest to hold the included level along the fabric to make sure it’s perfectly vertical, and that it goes into the same stud.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsUse a separated plank to clamp the last set of grommets down the strip of fabric. Stretch the fabric to the right until the plank is centered on the next stud over, making sure the fabric is taut. Trace the corner of the unmounted plank and mount it.

This next part is best to do with a second person. Put the sisal pole together using the instructions here. Please keep in mind our instructions are for a larger pole, but it’s the same concept (attaching the ends and making sure the backs are lined up together.)

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsRemove the caps from the planks at the top and bottom of the sisal pole. With the help of another person holding the pole against the wall, lay the grommets at the end of the section of fabric coming off of the Escape Hatch over the plank at the base of the pole, pull it taught to the right, and mount it in place. Then do the same with the top plank. Use a level on the side of the pole to be sure it’s straight up and down.

Next, attach the last section of fabric to the top plank and reattach the plank tops to both the top and bottom of the pole.

Cat Mod Deluxe Fort Mounting InstructionsFinally, use a separated plank to clamp the last set of grommets on the strip of fabric. Stretch the fabric to the left until the plank is centered on the next stud over, making sure the fabric is taut. Trace the corner of the unmounted plank.

Mount the plank and attach the end of the fabric.
